This kite got me hooked! Made me order a framed dual line and dream of others.
The first step wasn't as smooth as expected. Typically, I wouldn't unfold a ready to fly item but with the curiosity and impatience I opened it anyway, and I was right to do so, as I discovered a bird's nest on the lines and it took me over an hour to detangle it. We made things worse later as my five year-old held it with one hand in the wind and we had an even worse tangle. I acquired a new detangling skill, and once you get used to the kite it doesn't seem like tangles are a big issue, even though you'd hope that the lines come untangled out of the box (or in this precise case, the small great looking pouch).
Except for that, it has been a pleasure beyond expectations. It takes off easily, it's easy to learn the basics. The 5 year-old marvels over the 75 ft tail and is already getting his feet wet by holding the lines with me when I kneel after successful attempts with single Lines. The spouse takes beautiful pics and videos and seems interested enough to give flying a try shortly.
The pattern is lovely, the kite is incredibly easy to fold, and it has exceeded expectations in many ways. The line upgrade alone justifies the price over the 140, not to mention that it operates with lighter winds. I wish it had a sand / water drain like the Tantrum.
It seems like a good idea when unfolding, but the back of the kite being white might be the one downside when pitted against the competition. Just the front inlet being white and the back being even just a plain yellow or orange would be an upgrade in flight.
Bottom line, sorry for the long review (or you're welcome), but this kite is exactly what I was looking for in a first dual line. The fun and possibilities are numerous, and it looks like something one would fly even with lots of experience or numerous kites at hand. Very happy with the purchase.
I recently picked up the Prism Synapse 170 and couldn’t be happier with it. It launches effortlessly and handles beautifully in a wide range of wind conditions. The dual-line control is super responsive, and the included flying lines make a noticeable difference in precision. I love that there’s no setup—just unfold and fly. Highly recommended kite!
I have a Quantum that I needed parts for after my kids crashed it. I saw there were frameless kites and instantly ordered the Synapse 170 for them to fly with less chance of breaking it. Awesome choice. Pulls hard enough to have fun, but my 9 year old daughter can still fly (With a little help at time!!)
Sometimes you want a thrill. But, sometimes the middle is just right. I found the 170 to be a thoroughly enjoyable gentlemanly flyer; a kite I often fly while sitting in a beach chair, and not worry the chair is going to be pulled to Mexico!
We keep this in our car at all times. Love how compact it is when packed and how it bursts open to an impressive scale. We love flying this at the beach near us and always get people stopping to watch and complimenting the show.
